🔴 Palestinian Prisoner’s Society: At Least 140 Palestinians Arrested Overnight by Occupation Forces

April 28, 2024

Ramallah, occupied Palestine -

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society said that Israeli occupation forces arrested and conducted field interrogations with around 140 Palestinians between Monday night and Tuesday morning in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem. Among them were a woman and children, in addition to former prisoners.

The PPS explained in a statement that the arrests were distributed across most governorates of the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and were concentrated mainly in the towns of al-Ram, Kafr Aqab, al-Dhahiriya, and Qalandia camp. These areas witnessed a wide-scale assault that lasted for hours, and most of those detained were later released.

The PPS affirmed that field interrogation has become the most prominent policy used by the occupation during raids, as part of collective punitive measures targeting all segments of Palestinian society, affecting thousands of citizens since the start of the genocide. It noted that the abuse accompanying field interrogation is no less severe than that accompanying actual arrest.

The PPS pointed to a number of crimes and violations that consistently accompany arrest operations, including severe beatings, organized terror against detainees and their families, widespread destruction and vandalism of citizens’ homes, confiscation of vehicles, money, and gold jewelry, as well as the destruction of infrastructure, demolition of prisoners’ family homes, taking family members as hostages, using detainees as human shields, carrying out field executions, and exploiting arrests as a cover to expand settlements in the West Bank with support from settlers.

The PPS reiterated that the current crimes of the occupation are an extension of its long-standing approach aimed at targeting the Palestinian presence and imposing further tools of repression, control, and surveillance. It noted that the only change since the start of the war of genocide has been the intensity of these crimes.

The PPS stressed that occupation authorities continue to carry out systematic arrest campaigns, which are among the most historically entrenched policies implemented daily against citizens. It added that the number of arrest cases in the occupied West Bank since the start of the genocide has exceeded 23,000 cases.
