Ramallah, occupied Palestine – In response to a widely-shared image of a Palestinian political detainee, naked and brutally bound to metals and other tools with his arms and legs stretched, the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said in a statement on Thursday that the Israeli occupation system is employing a systematic policy of torture and severe abuse against Palestinian political prisoners and has no shame in sharing these images. This serves as a blatant expression of the level of brutality it has reached, turning crimes of torture into a tool for public display and humiliation.

The PPS explained that the occupation has systematically published images and videos of torture and grave abuse of  Palestinian prisoners. This includes scenes involving systematic humiliation and practices that amount to crimes against humanity. The photo of the Palestinian detainee from the Gaza Strip—a shocking scene that embodies the highest degree of insult and abuse —adds to a long series of crimes and violations accompanying the ongoing genocide.

Occupation army soldiers constitute the primary source for a large number of these filmed materials that document the torture and abuse of prisoners. Despite the occupation's attempts to market these crimes as "isolated incidents," field data and testimonies from prisoners confirm that they are part of an integrated, institutional policy in which various levels of the occupation system participate.

The videos published by the so-called Minister of National Security (Itamar Ben-Gvir) represent a clear model of the normalization of these crimes, contributing to the entrenchment of a culture of impunity, and encouraging the public documentation of torture practices, thereby transforming it into official behavior within the Israeli occupation’s apparatus of torture and abuse.

In this context, the PPS renewed its demand to the international community and human rights organizations to assume their legal and moral responsibilities. It urged immediate action to put an end to the policy of impunity that has provided the occupation with cover to continue its crimes, and has entrenched a genocidal approach across multiple levels—foremost among them the crimes committed against Palestinian political prisoners.

The PPS emphasizes that the occupation's crimes, led by torture, have resulted in the martyrdom of more than 100 prisoners in occupation prisons since the beginning of the crime of genocide, with the identities of 90 of them disclosed by occupation authorities so far. This occurs amidst the continuation of harsh and dangerous detention conditions that threaten the lives of thousands of prisoners and foreshadow the commission of further crimes against them.
