Ramallah, occupied Palestine- The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society said that Israeli occupation forces carried out a widespread arrest campaign between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, arresting at least 30 Palestinians from across the West Bank. The arrests were concentrated mainly in the governorates of Hebron, Nablus, Qalqilya, and Tulkarem. Among those detained was journalist Abdelrahman Hassan from Bethlehem.
The PPS explained that the campaign comes amid the continued escalation of the occupation’s arrest operations targeting various segments of Palestinian society. In many cases, these operations are accompanied by violent raids, searches, and vandalism of homes, as well as abusive detention and field interrogation of residents.
Occupation authorities continue to intensify their targeting of Palestinian journalists through systematic arrests and ongoing targeting while they carry out their work, in addition to the killing of journalists in the Gaza Strip. This is one of the bloodiest periods for journalists, in an ongoing attempt to erase the truth and target the Palestinian narrative.
The PPS noted that escalating arrest campaigns constitute one of the most prominent tools used by the occupation to impose control and implement a policy of collective punishment against Palestinians, through daily raids and mass arrests, accompanied by threats, intimidation, and mistreatment of detainees and their families.
In the same context, the arrest campaigns coincide with an increase in settler attacks against Palestinians and their property, particularly in areas experiencing repeated raids and assaults. These actions form part of an integrated system targeting Palestinians and aimed at imposing greater control over them and forcing them to confront an ongoing reality of threats, violence, and intimidation.
The governorates of Hebron, Nablus, Qalqilya, and Tulkarem are experiencing continued escalation in raids and arrests, reflecting the widening scope of targeting to include different areas and segments of the population.
Occupation forces continue to carry out daily arrests across the West Bank as part of a systematic policy that has escalated to an unprecedented level since the the genocide, bringing the total number of arrests since then to more than 25,000.
