⭕️ Occupation Authorities Place Palestinian Female Journalist in Solitary
⭕️ Abuse of Female Political Prisoners Continues

Ramallah, occupied Palestine - The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society said that the Israeli occupation authorities transferred journalist and prisoner Bushra al-Tawil (33), from the city of al-Bireh, from Damon Prison to solitary confinement in Ramleh Prison, approximately six months after her arrest and subsequent placement in administrative detention, without trial or charge.

In a statement issued on Monday, the PPS explained that al-Tawil was arrested in February 2026 and was later placed under administrative detention. She had previously been arrested several times, beginning her experience with detention in 2011, at the age of 18. Most of her previous periods of detention were under administrative detention.

The PPS noted that her father, prisoner Jamal al-Tawil, remains detained in occupation prisons. He is among the prominent prisoners who have been subjected to administrative detention over the past several years. Her family has also been subjected to ongoing abuse and targeting through repeated raids on their home, as well as the deliberate destruction and vandalism of its contents during the arrests of Bushra and her father.

Al-Tawil is among the female prisoners who have faced repeated targeting inside Damon Prison. During her current period of detention, she has been transferred to solitary confinement more than once, as part of a series of repressive measures imposed against her since her arrest. This reflects an ongoing pattern of abuse and targeting against her.
Her transfer to solitary confinement comes amid extremely harsh conditions faced by Palestinian female prisoners in occupation prisons. The occupation authorities continue to impose policies of starvation, denial of medical treatment and healthcare, solitary confinement, and poor detention conditions. 

Scabies has also spread among the female prisoners amid a lack of adequate hygiene and healthcare. The number of female prisoners in occupation prisons is estimated at around 90.

Al-Tawil’s transfer to solitary confinement coincides with the publication yesterday by Israel’s far-right so-called “National Security” Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, of footage filmed during his storming of the female prisoners’ section at Damon Prison—a scene that reflects an unprecedented level of brutality and the degradation of the dignity and rights of the female prisoners.

The PPS stressed that this raid, along with the filming of the female prisoners, forms part of systematic practices aimed at humiliating them and violating their privacy and human dignity. It said that the targeting of female prisoners is not limited to harsh detention conditions, but extends to raids on their sections, filming them, and the systematic imposition of humiliating and degrading strip-search procedures.

The PPS emphasized that the targeting of Bushra al-Tawil, and the treatment of Palestinian female prisoners in general, are neither isolated incidents nor temporary measures. Rather, they occur within the context of an ongoing system of repressive and systematic policies pursued by the occupation against male and female prisoners, targeting their fundamental rights and human dignity and deliberately worsening their detention conditions.

It further stressed that continued solitary confinement, denial of medical treatment and healthcare, starvation, and poor detention conditions constitute an extension of the policies imposed on all prisoners since the beginning of the crime of genocide, as part of an unprecedented escalation in the level of repression and abuse inside occupation prisons. The prisons have become arenas for the production of torture, which is one of the most prominent aspects of the ongoing genocide.

The PPS holds the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for the fate of journalist and prisoner Bushra al-Tawil and all Palestinian female prisoners in occupation prisons, amid the continued policies of solitary confinement, repression, and abuse, accompanied by the denial of basic rights and healthcare. It calls on international and human rights institutions to assume their responsibilities and intervene urgently to halt these violations and ensure the safety of the female prisoners.
