🔴Palestinian Prisoner’s Society: Global Solidarity a Key Front Against “Israeli” Prison Genocide

January 31, 2026

Ramallah, occupied Palestine – The growing and sustained efforts of global, people-led campaigns in support of the Palestinian national cause and of the thousands of political prisoners held in “Israeli” occupation prisons has moved beyond symbolic solidarity; it has become a real and confrontational force, standing in direct opposition to the Western settler-colonial system that systematically targets Palestinian existence through genocide, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said today on the occasion of the Red Ribbons Campaign - a global protest day for the release of Palestinian prisoners, or hostages.

The past two years - since the start of the genocide in occupied Gaza - have constituted the most violent and oppressive period in the history of the Palestinian struggle against Zionist colonization since the 1880s.

The “Israeli” occupation has transformed its central prisons and military camps into key sites of genocide, physical and psychological torture, starvation, sexual assault and rape, denial of medical treatment, among many other severe war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against an imprisoned, occupied population. Direct and indirect murder of detainees has become a matter of policy. Thousands of Palestinian political prisoners have been completely stripped of all and any legal or humanitarian safeguards or protections.

The PPS emphasized that the surge of global calls for protests, disruptions, and solidarity actions in defense of Palestinian political prisoners reflects a clear awakening of the world’s moral conscience. These actions are especially significant because they are unfolding at the very centers where “Israel’s” crimes are financed, shielded, and normalized. Together, they constitute a direct and unequivocal indictment of an international system fully complicit in genocide.

More than 100 Palestinian political prisoners have been killed inside the occupation’s central prisons and military camps since the start of the genocide in occupied Gaza, including people killed through rape, torture and starvation. Mass arbitrary arrest and detention campaigns by occupation forces in the West Bank and Jerusalem continue on a nightly basis. More than 21,000 cases of arrests have been recorded by prisoner institutions in the West Bank and Jerusalem since October 2023, with thousands more abducted from Gaza. Arrest and detention form the backbone of “Israel’s” violent and oppressive military occupation—an attempt to break the Palestinian social fabric and drain its ability to remain steadfast.

The PPS affirms that the voices of free people and allies to the Palestinian cause around the world form an advanced moral and humanitarian front in the battle to defend one of the most just issues globally, including the key dimension of political prisoners. Those who pay a price by confronting violent police forces in the West are actively contributing to the dismantling of the occupation’s colonial system and the structures that sustain it, while helping to reframe what is unfolding as an assault on universal human values and justice.

The PPS further stresses that continuing popular and international mobilization is not an option, but a moral and legal necessity and obligation, to pressure for an end to the organized crimes committed against all Palestinians, foremost among them political prisoners taken captive, to save them from one of the most dangerous arenas in the current genocide: prisons.

We renew our call to the free peoples of the world, and to all those in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners and detainees, to continue raising their voices loudly to stop the genocide being committed against the Palestinian people, to disrupt the system of “business-as-usual” and halt the crimes practiced against Palestinian political prisoners. We call on them to pressure their governments to cut all forms of relations with the occupation, which is accused of committing genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, and to impose an economic, cultural, and academic boycott on this illegal occupation.

Data on prisoners and detainees in Israeli occupation prisons as of early January 2026:
* At least 9,350 Palestinian political detainees in the occupation’s prisons as of early January 2026.
* Among them are 56 female prisoners, including two female minors.
* Some 350 Palestinian child prisoners, all held by the occupation in Megiddo and Ofer prisons.
* At least 3,385 Palestinians arrested from the occupied West Bank held under “administrative detention” without trial or charge.
* At least 1,237 Palestinians arrested from occupied Gaza held under the “unlawful combatants” law, without trial or charge. This figure does not include all Gaza detainees held in army camps and classified under this category. This classification also includes Arab detainees from Lebanon and Syria.
* Based on the above data, approximately 50 percent of all Palestinian political detainees are held without trial or charge, either under administrative detention or as “unlawful combatants.”
* “Administrative detainees” alone constitute more than 36 percent of the total number of prisoners.
